Great sushi! We come here a lot. Last night we had take out, but the Volcano and Ramen soup doesn't take out as well as eating it there. As usual, loved the Edamame and the TNT rolls. The salmon and tuna nigiri were fresh and tasty. While we ordered take out last night, we eat in the restaurant often. It is small, so be prepared to wait during peak hours if you have a larger party. Service is usually very good, too.

I realized that I rarely have Japanese food in Michigan. Must be because we are far from fresh water. My parents are super picky so I decided to find a Japanese restaurant. We came here on a Saturday evening around 6pm. We were the first patrons. They have these side booth tables. The booth seats are sticky and a bit hot. Eh. We ordered some ramen noodles and a bunch of sushi. The ramen noodles were undercooked. It was bad. Even my parents made the point that they hated their noodles too. The sushi was good though. Won't be coming back. Towards the end of our meal more people started coming in. The share the parking lot with all the Asian stores the "Chinatown" of Michigan.

Since my review from 2011, the Diablo Noodles and Goyza Dumplings are still delicious. The recipes are the same and the service has improved. Although I enjoy several staple entrees, It would be nice if the menu could be updated with some new dishes or weekly specials.

Another week, another stir fry. More noodles were needed. Tried Edamame Sushi this time. It is in the same mall on Whitcomb & John R. as Fuji Market, Chao Zhou, Taipan Bakery, and China BBQ- just on the far south end. Small, it is split between the sushi bar and dining in area with a good number of tables. Got an order of crispy noodles and lumpia to go. The crispy noodles were delicious, the crunch of the noodles contrasting nicely with the flavor of vegetables and white gravy. The lumpia was not to my taste. They were small, didn't use a lumpia wrapper, and not filled with an expected mix of protein and vegetables (used a pork & shrimp mix instead). But the noodle dish was the closest thing I've found so far to the Cantonese-American cuisine I'm used to. I will definitely return to try other dishes and their sushi.

Got Sushi here and was not disappointed. Recommended for sure. While my food was good and I had no complaints, one of the people in our party was having a problem with his meal, and the waitress was not quite engaged as she probably should have been. We did show up pretty close to closing time and I have no doubt we were viewed as invaders on everyone being able to go home on time. I hope that this was just a rare occurrence and does not speak to others experiences here. I would say if you are looking for Sushi, this is a great place to go.

Me and my buddy sloop were looking to spice up a mundane Monday night so we thought 'hey, why don't we check out one of the variety of ethnic restaurants in Madison Heights' this may actually turn into a Monday night tradition... Seriously though Madison Heights is flying way under the radar, this town really has it all Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Mexican. So after sifting through a few prospects on Yelp we decided upon Edamame because of the proximity (4.7 miles) as well as the presence of Ramen. We came around 8ish and there were a few other tables seated. We ended up splitting a bowl of Tonkotsu Ramen and two "crazy" sushi rolls (I classify a sushi roll as crazy if it has over 4 ingredients and/or costs 7+ dollars. Sushi was big portions, and tasted fresh. The ramen was good, it was not the best I have had but I take comfort knowing that when the ramen craving strikes (and it can strike hard) it is available to me 4.7 miles away. I believe the noodles were homemade too! I will be back, but only after I have tried some of the other Madison Heights sushi spots (for comparison purposes of course!)

It's been a while since I've been back to Edamame but Noble Fish was far too busy to get a seat so me and my girl landed here by a happy change of plans. Last I was here they didn't have any alcohol on the menu but now have offerings of beer, wine and sake. A hot sake, please! We ordered some tuna, eel, egg and smelt roe nigiri in addition to a chili tuna roll and a deep fried premium roll with krab salad, spicy tuna and something or other. The fish was all quality and the size of the nigiri was generous. My only complaint there was the cut on the tuna left those stringy strands that might be unavoidable...the meat was very tender though. The chili tuna roll was easily my favorite and I haven't seen it very often except at Little Tree (which is the only reason I go back there). The premium roll was a little too sweet for what I wanted but it was decadent and tasty. This place was a class act and I'll return for more. The service was fast and friendly and the sushi chefs were also exceptionally friendly and inquisitive into the food they had prepared and how we enjoyed it. Definitely worth stopping in for a bite to eat....and if they're too busy then Tienda Mexicana is literally around the corner so you can't lose.

I love this place and eat here a lot! I've tried about every sushi place within 15 miles of here and this one is by far my favorite. BLT rolls, Philly cheesesteak rolls are awesome! Great place and great customer service!!

Been there several times and I've never had a bad meal. Good sushi, good noodle dishes including pancit and good lumpia. I think it's above average but not over the top. A good friend of mine really likes it there a lot. I'd prefer to hit a Vietnamese restaurant on John R, but she's not a fan so it's a good compromise when we meet up for dinner.

I realized it was pretty ridick I didn't give this place 5 stars. I've been going here with the wife basically since we met several years ago. 2 out of 3 of my life's sushi meals were probably at edamame. Since my last review a few years back, I've tried some of their non sushi items. The noodle dishes are tasty, and they have some unique tacos too. They did raise their prices a little while back, but even with that, they are still very reasonably priced. We usually get the sushi special #1 (a cali, tuna, and spicy fish roll and a miso for $12). We usually throw in a Godzilla roll (I know soft shell crab can look freaky but soooo tasty!... and its a HUGE roll), another random roll (though today we tried the ceviche) and finish with an Egg Nigiri (Tomago) for dessert. If you've never tried the egg... do it. I generally don't even care for eggs, but this beautiful, delicately layered omelet has this mild but tasty sweetness that caps off an always solid meal. The servers are all nice, and the sushi chefs are friendly. Hit up Tai Pan, the Chinese bakery in the same plaza, for a unique and inexpensive dessert!

Ordered carryout. Had the Seattle roll and the big joe. Both were good rolls. Wasabi Was fresh as well the ginger. However I like ginger so I think they could have supplied more of it. Edamame a little salty for my taste. I also had the ramen soup with miso base. First time having this type of soup,I like eggs, so the hard boil was cool. I thought it was good. I liked the pork, had good flavor. The service was good. I was asked if need help to my car with my carryout. Carrying a newborn in the car seat is kinda heavy, so it was nice that I was asked and of course I said "yes" Would I return? I think so. It's a restaurant that I would put my efforts into trying something else on the menu.

Positive: the food and sushi is good! delicious. Ramen was delicious the negative: they need to have better organization structures when it comes to seating people or more table room? The restaurant is super small and super crowded, there isn't barely any space. The organization of seating people is all confused because apparently, the two waitress didn't communicate with each other with who was sitting whom at this specific table. Anyways, we ended up in some confusion if we were seated in the right table? I hope they can work on that at least..

A real standout among sushi places in the area and in SE MI in general. Their take on Neu-Asian/Asian fusion is well done but not overthought. The Asian sausage tacos are delicious! If your ordering sushi, and aren't hung up on the idea that traditional style is mandatory, try the Great White. Whatever sauce is drizzled over it should be bottled and sold. By the gallon. Service is always friendly, and a table is usually easy to get without notice. Bonus- take out is available, which seems almost unusual for a restaurant with food of this caliber.

Tried edamame for the first time yesterday with some friends. Prices for this place were cheaper than other sushi places, which is why my friends had chosen it for our lunch. I ordered the Hawaiian roll, Michigan roll, and salmon roll. Portion sizes were great for three rolls and service was okay. The reason for three stars is because it just wasn't the best sushi I've had. I had a hard time getting over the state of the rice. First, it was overly sweet. I couldn't dip it into my soy sauce because the combined taste of sweet and salty didn't sit right with me. Additionally, I couldn't tater the fish - that's how powerful the sweetened Rice was. My second issue with the rice was that it didn't hold together. I was ready to go to bed the sweetened rice by just picking the sushi apart and eating the insides separate from the rice but when trying to do so, I just ended up with rice everywhere. So while portion size and service was good, I just couldn't get over the rice. I'll definitely give this place another try (in hopes that this was a one time occurrence) as reviews suggest to go outside the sushi menu.

Just tried Edamame Sushi for lunch. Positives- The service was very good. With only one waitress, she did a very good job. I ordered miso soup and a shrimp tempura roll. They were both very good, and came out in a timely manner. Negatives- I thought the restrooms were a little bit dirty, and the restaurant was poorly lit. I also thought it may have been a little over priced paying $12.50 for a cup of soup and 5 pieces of sushi.

Some if the best sushi I've had came from this little gem. The outside of it looks rather janky but the inside is actually kinda nice. The sushi chefs are very talented as I've never had a poor experience. The TNT and Godzilla roll are great. I've tried almost all the rolls there and none were bad :) they even draw smily faces in the sauces that come with the rolls! Too darn cute!!! I like that they break down the menu by price too. You could even make your own rolls if you're picky- they have a whole page on options of paper, protein, sauces, veggies ect :) Never had any of their "food" items but they all look good as they walk by. Make sure to check out their specials on a cute little chalk board- they change pretty often. ***Make sure you call before you go- they have weird hours***

Came here on a Sunday at around 6:40. We were a party of 3 to bring the grand total up to almost 20 people in the restaurant. The service was ok but I'm being nice because they only had 1 waitress and she was overwhelmed. They had about 5 people behind the counter 2 sushi cooks and 3 other guys for other things. Took forever to get 4 sushi rolls. Literally like 30 minutes almost. Mind you, most of the other people were already eating so what could have taken so long? The food: ask for the sweet sauce on the side. It's good but it's everywhere and gets everywhere. Ended up with a puddle of sweet sauce in the middle of the sushi plate that had all the rolls on it even though not all the rolls came with it. Honestly, I'd give this place a 2.5 but no half stars. I don't know if I'll give em a second chance but I guess I gotta be in the area.

I've been here 3 times. I really do want to like them because the service is always very good and everyone is super nice, but the sushi rolls and food here in general need a lot of work. The rice is too mushy, the fish sometimes have a weird chemically taste, and sauces on some rolls are just too overpowering. The prices are cheaper than most sushi places in the area, but I'd rather spend the extra few bucks for better sushi at Crazy Sushi on Dequindre or if I am feeling like a glutton I'd go for Fuji's sushi buffet. I think if they work on making their rolls tighter, make a point to buy fresh fish or have better freezing/thawing sushi fish methods, and work on their rice preparation, then this place could convert me, but for now I have to stick to Volcano & Ichiban (near Lakeside Mall), or Crazy and Fuji if I am in the area.

I heard great things about this place so I decided to try them out for lunch today with a friend. We ordered the Philly, Spicy Tuna and Texas rolls, all of which were less than mediocre. $25 before tip and we left quite disappointed. Both agreed it was one of the worst places we've had sushi at in awhile. The best of the meal was the little Asian candy they gave us with our bill. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

This place is great, I had the ramen which I loved. Randy had the Diablo Noodles which he liked but was not blown away. The best part is the sushi, it was amazing, fresh and tasty. Staff was great and helpful. Only bad thing about the place is the customers, bunch of annoying shits.

Edamame Sushi is a small, casual sushi spot with some very good food! The Gyoza Dumplings come in a wonderful broth and are as good as it gets! I love having the salad w/ginger dressing on most of my visits. I have been coming here for a long time and have always received good food and service. The sushi is not as fanciful presented as higher end places, but neither are the prices! The Asian Fusion (non-sushi) dinners are very good also. There are always some off menu items as specials on the board, like Philippine Pork Adobo or some taco specials. Any place can have good & bad days, but we always enjoy Edemame's!

Friendly staff, delicious sushi, a nice quiet place to get lunch or dinner. Dragon or any of the spicy rolls are my usual go-to order, but I just recently tried the yakisoba noodles which is now part of my order rotation there! They do take out orders as well, but I always like to sit down and enjoy. Great little place semi-hidden at the end of a little strip mall, definitely check it out!

My coworkers eat here several times a week, so I had been looking forward to trying some of their sushi for quite some time, but unfortunately, my first visit will also be my last. I order a Shrimp Tempura and a Spicy California Roll for myself and several things for others. When I get there to pick up, service was friendly and fast, food was ready but everyone's sushi rolls were in the same box, which was annoying but no big deal. We get back and eat our food and ALL of it is incorrect. None of the rolls are what we ordered and the pasta dishes are wrong. When I call to complain, I first have to argue with Ms. Friendly-turned-not-so-friendly for five minutes before being transferred to management. I over hear her explaining to the owner that she knows what I ordered and insinuates that I'm not telling the truth. The owner gets on the phone and proceeds to tell me there is no fish in my sushi rolls (which I agree, there should not have been and that's how I knew the order was incorrect) and only conceded after another 8 minutes of back and forth (I was now well past my lunch break time) and me sending him an ACTUAL PICTURE of my rolls. At this point, I ask for a refund and he says he will replace the order but they don't give refunds EVER. -_- The final insult is that I never got the food because they closed at 2:30 and I didn't get off until 4. Just an all around unpleasant experience.

Madison Heights and Sushi are rather hard to find together. But luckily I was able to be proven wrong with this. Very tasty rolls... very large portions... only down side is small beverages. $1.50 for a can of pop... so things like that kind of get to me. The rolls though, were really good. Check the specials board, because there were some specials that I would have had if I would have seen them before I had ordered from he regular menu. But aside from that, very friendly staff... loved the atmosphere... and things just seemed to be really cool. I wouldn't call it trendy.... but at least things are very well put together and people leave there very full One more word of warning... if you are a TNT roll fan, their roll is not spicy at all... in fact, they serve it with a sesame dip that really is more sweet than anything... so a big heads up on that one. :) Other than that? More wasabi please!

This is my favorite sushi place! Everything is fresh and the prices are reasonable! The service has been just ok the past few times I've been there. But I went for dinner on Saturday night and there were a few new servers which seemed to be on point. The sushi is great, my husband and I usually go for the godzilla roll which is huge! I'm usually not a fan of California rolls but there's something about the one at Edamame it's delicious! The spicy fish roll is also very good. I would highly recommend this place!

We go here often. Atleast once a week, Love the food. We were pretty upset when we went for lunch Tuesday at 1:50 and was turned away by waitress telling us we had a few minutes, the hours are until 2:30 for lunch. She was rude standing with foot on wall and basically telling us to leave. We were not the only ones. I wonder how many times this has happened and wonder if the owner knows. That's money thrown out the window for him if it happens every day. We knew they closed between lunch and dinner and just wanted a quick meal, can't believe being regulars and we leave a generous tip every time. Very disappointed, it will be some time before we return. I hope they read this so they realize how the staff treat the guest. I have worked in restaurants and you welcome your guests with open arms until you are closed at the time you say you serve till.

One of my favorite sushi place in the 'burbs. I'd visit more often if their weird hours didn't throw me off. And if parking was better. But I digress. I like that their rolls are either one price or the other rather than having each one be all over their place. Some of their better offerings: TNT for the deep fried goodness. Seattle for the caramelized California roll. The Harley roll for the extremely spicy tuna. If you want your mouth on fire and tears in your eyes, then go for that. It's really good! They also have some odder rolls that I can't say sound that good but maybe I'll try if I'm feeling adventurous: the Madison cheese steak roll has you guessed it, steak and onions. The Futomaki has egg, spinach and pickled radish, among other things. I've never had the Nu-Asian stuff. I wish sushi places would just focus on their speciality rather than trying to impress me with fancy-shmancy stuff.

What a great gem in Madison Heights. The staff is very helpful and friendly. And the food is wonderful. You can even create your own sushi roll. They have a bragged board to show off the rolls people have created. I really like the super harley and the godzilla rolls.

Good sized portions. An okay environment. Kinda cramped space and the menu's were really worn. I ordered the TNT roll and I wish I saw the review about it not being spicy. I must say that I was slightly disappointed. Honey bubble tea was pretty good except for the hard bubbles on the bottom. Something to be aware of is that the sushi + kitchen stops cooking at 8:45pm.

My 4yo and I went here for lunch during the week. I ordered some sushi rolls and Lumpia and even my daughter is a picky eater ate most of the lumpia. It was all very authentic snd service was great. I ordered noodles to go to reheat for dinner that night and that was delish even reheated. We will be back for sure to try other rolls!

This place is really nice, but doesn't beat my favorite sushi joint. The Big Joe Roll is something that is a must have here. I asked for a side of rice and it tasted like horse barn, so I gave it to my sister and she liked it. So at least it wasn't money wasted.

Let me preface this by saying that Edamame is great. Yay! I'm a fan. I've been a semi-regular ever since they opened a few years back, and they've gone from being a hidden gem to a place that has a loyal following and seems to do a respectable business. They've had some growing pains, but the quality has never suffered. I could do yet another review about the quality and value of their sushi. But I won't. It would just get lost in the shuffle of all the other sushi reviews. We all get it by now: Edamame = Fresh/Quality/Cheap sushi. (Though I will sidetrack to say that I love it how if you order a bento box w/ sashimi they will ALWAYS include some octopus. There is a tip for you.) Instead I would like to offer a rare review of their "Nu-Asian Kitchen" fare. They do noodles/rice/soups/etc in a similar philosophy to their sushi. Fresh, competitively priced, and high quality (if not 5-star). Of the handful of noodle dishes I have tried, my favorite is the Broccoli Noodles (w/ choice of meat, for $7.50). They make it with thai rice noodles and it's basically just a plate of delicious steaming Pad SeeEw. It's fragrant, sweet, a little bit peppery, and heats up great when you bring the leftovers home (also delicious cold). I have never tried any of the noodle soups (Udon/Soba/Ramen/Mami) but there are always people in there slurping away at them. And they always look and smell yummy. The best thing coming out of the kitchen, to me, are what I like to call their "silogs". Essentially, a "silog" is a big heaping mess of rich savory garlic fried rice covered in a couple fried eggs and a choice of meat. Include beef terriyaki and its a "Steaksilog". Include marinated pork and its a "Porksilog". Get the idea? My favorite is the "Hawaiisilog" which includes everyone's favorite mystery meat, Spam. Sounds disgusting but it is really quite tasty and works great in this context. Break open the eggs, stir it all together into a big goopy mess, and dig in. Giddyup! Salty, eggy, garlicky, yum. They also do mix-n-match Asian tacos, which I believe are a newer menu item, and I have been meaning to try. And there is always some interesting stuff on the specials board, though my knowledge of Asian cuisine styles and terminology is lacking to the point where I usually need to ask a server what it all means. Fact of the matter is, everything I have tried from their kitchen has been really good to great. It's sometimes hard to veer away from their cheap and delicious sushi, but if you do I can almost guarantee you'll be glad that you did. Also, the variety of interesting and tasty menu items makes Edamame an ideal place to go for sushi when there is someone in your group who hates sushi (or at least they THINK they do, because nobody who really gives it a chance actually hates sushi. That is just cray cray) The biggest point of criticism I can offer for Edamame is the inconsistency with their hours of operation. They do the standard open-for-lunch-then-close-for-a-bit-then-reopen-Âfor-dinner thing that a lot of Asian restaurants do. And that is fine, I can deal with that. However there have been too many times where I have shown up during an "open" window and there has been a sign on the door stating that they are closed. It's always something random like a family emergency, or a problem with the air conditioner, a high pollen alert, or the threat of a Mothra attack (ok, I made up one or two of those). But regardless, it is frustrating. I would guess I average an "Edamame attempt" once every two months, and that one out of every three attempts they are randomly closed due to some catastrophic event. Perhaps it is just bad timing on my part, but I have to imagine this is also happening to others, and once again it is frustrating. Other than that? Love the place.

The presentation and size of our rolls was great! However, the sushi rice was the worst I've had. It was both bland and a too "sugary-kind-of-sweet." It has no rice vinegar in it, which is what really gives sushi its sushi-ee flavor. I also ordered the ribeye, which was crispy and tender, but came submerged in a lemon-gravy. Definitely not what I expected and not something I would order again. Overall, I really wanted to like this place. The presentation and staff were nice, but if you're looking for authentic asian cuisine, look elsewhere. I have to note that it's tucked deceptively in a plaza with totally legit asian businesses, but Edamame Sushi is run by a nice, but definitively white man.

Philippino and Japanese cuisine ....who would of thought it? It works. I tried the Shanghai eggrolls, they were okay. (I grew up on homemade, so it's difficult to compete with that.) But, they were truly enjoyable. Had the sushi also. I was seriously skeptical at first and am happy to report that I am truly impressed. The fish was fresh and the rolls were well made. I can't wait to go back!

The best sushi in town! This is the place to go after a long busy day at work. TNT sushi, Tapsilog and a bottle of Asahi beer will make you forget that your day was a hell. :D The staff are very friendly and courteous. And most of all the price is very affordable.

I have been here twice and haven't tried the sushi. I came because I heard the filipino food was good. My aunt and I ordered mami soup with siopao, lechon kawali with garlic rice. Then we finished with some halo halo. I must say the food did not disappoint. The mami soup was a nice rich broth with lots of yummy noodles. The siopao had a very nice soft dough, the right consistency for siopao. The lechon kawali was fried nice and crispy and perfectly paired with the dip and garlic rice. I wish that they served the halo halo with ube ice cream and more coconut strings--otherwise everything was good. Hope to try more filipino dishes and the eventually the sushi...

Been there half a dozen time so far, usually for lunch, once for dinner. The sushi is good (though not as good as you'll find at Noble Fish) as is the gyoza and the udon. My girlfriend didn't care for the pancit bihon she ordered, but that may be an acquired taste, as she'd never had Filipino food before. Service is very friendly, water and tea are quickly topped off before they get empty, but the waitresses do seem to spend a fair amount of time gossiping with each other. My only complaint: The music is way too loud.

I've been coming here for years, and this place rightfully deserves my first Yelp review. Everything on the menu is great and on point for what I expect as a casual mid-price asian restaurant. Comfortable, cozy, eclectic interior. The servers who have been there a while have always been really friendly and knowledgeable. The menu on the chalkboard changes throughout the season, and I've had some really offbeat stuff which was great. The bangus fish though was a miss - deep fried whole but left dry. The sushi rolls are a hit or miss; sometimes the nori is a little stiff. Nigiri is good. I usually come for the ramen or noodles lately. Chock full of taste and tender meats in the soup. If I'm not in the mood for some Pho from the nearby Vietnamese eateries, I definitely come here first.

So apparently either my taste buds have changed, Edamame has improved on the things that I previously had a problem with, or I was really hungry tonight. I had an incredible meal at Edamame just now. While I was eating it, I said to myself, "I am going to immediately update my review on Yelp!" Lumpia = OM NOM NOM. Very crispy and tasty. Great dipping sauce. Smoked salmon, asparagus and cream cheese roll = YES I WANT MORE. Then there was a special roll, called the Summer roll, and it consisted of smoked salmon, avocado, and was topped with tempura crunch and this amazing Japanese mayo sauce. SO GOOD I WANT MORE OF THIS TOO. Taro bubble tea: YES PLEASE. I'd go here again. And again. And perhaps again. Edamame is doing something right.

We were there on one of those sweltering hot and humid days. They were able to make us a cold udon soup dish cause nothing hot sounded good in the heat. It was yummy! We also ordered a couple of Sushi rolls that were pretty good too. Their air was down, so it was kinda miserable inside. But again - it was a crazy hot day and so their system probably just got overloaded.

No idea how the rating is so high. We went here for lunch and it was terrible. The service was horrible, they said it was because someone did not show up for work. If that is the case, at least enlist your bus boy to refill drinks instead of just standing there while people look around for a waitress who is too busy at the register with carry out orders. Took forever to order lunch, did not get our soup until after our meal and the soup spoon arrived wet and smelling like bleach/detergent. Could not get any drink refills, and the food itself was not good. If you want sushi, do yourself a favor and drive over to Noble Fish instead. If you want good Japanese food, jump on 696 and go to New Seoul Garden. We won't return to Edamame.

Update from my last review. My husband and I went to Edamame because we were on that side of town and were too lazy to drive to our normal sushi joint. What a mistake. My initial impression of Edamame was not incorrect and we left disappointed. The sushi was not rolled well, the food was slow, and the service was non-existent. The only redeeming quality again was that the sushi was cheaper than most other places in the area, however I was unable to overlook the other negatives. All around it was just a bad experience. There are way to many sushi places in the area to spend your time and money here.

Sorry I just spent our Friday night's dinner here. Let's get the good parts out of the way. Cozy atmosphere. Great service. Friendly staff and apparently someone there is an artist! Now let's talk food. I took one bite of my miso ramen and had to force it down. I was expecting salty goodness of miso; I got a sweet taste instead. I couldn't eat it. I was avoiding all sweetness as it was making me gag and want to vomit. Also ordered tofu roll and soybean roll. Both was devoid of flavor except sweetness. I really felt like they made everything geared towards phillipino taste or something. It really reminds me of a meal I spent at one of my pinay friend when she cooked me dinner. From entree to dessert....everything was too sweet for my taste. I don't think I'll return. I lost my appetite after a few bites. Oh the Edamame was actually edible and was not sweet! :) hence, it was the only thing I could keep down. I felt really bad for the older couple next to our table. They kept looking over at our table and waiting on their food. Guess their service wasn't as fast. I wanted to offer up our food since I didn't like it or want it.

Great little unassuming place in the strip mall at John R and 13.5 Mile Road. We usually order out from here once a month or more. We've tried a couple of places in the area and this is the best one we've found and most reasonably priced. We've never eaten at the restaurant itself but it seems to have a surprisingly nice ambiance when you walk in. I like the Chili Tuna and Hawaiian Roll. As an added bonus, when I first picked up the take out menu and looked at the artwork on the front I laughed out loud. I won't tell you why but I'm sure you can figure it out if you pickup the menu :]

Greatest place on earth! Alright I'm a little biased because Noel is the coolest and always hooks me up. Try the Godzilla or the Hawaiian. So amazingly good. Or the Joans YumYum if youre a vegetarian. Granted not the best sushi place of all time but what do you expect? Youre not paying $14 a roll. Youre paying $7. I dont go to Little Ceasers and complain about how the pizza wasnt the greatest (alright I actually do but thats not the point), so dont go to Edamame and expect $15 sushi. I have been meaning to get here for months, and finally today I took the plunge. I was on my way to the old standby, Noble Fish, when I decided to stop here instead. I am so, so glad I did. Remember all those people who said "What happened to Little Tree? It used to be so good all those years ago!" Well, here's what happened: The two chefs from Little Tree came here and opened their own place. Walking in here was like old times at Little Tree when it used to be good; familiar faces and familiar rolls. The menu is extensive, the specials board is huge, and the fish is fresh. They also have Filipino favorites; not that I would try anything other than sushi, but if you're looking for something different, there is a full menu. The sushi was excellent, just like Little Tree in its heydey. I got the "Big Joe Roll" and the "Rock N' Roll" along with some of the most tender and flavorful Eel nigiri I've ever had. The quality was awesome; a true standout. I also tried a scallop nigiri and it was equally fresh and delicious. Eddie, the chef, convinced me to try Uni again (Sea Urchin). I've never been a fan, but he promised it was sweet and gave me a free sample. He explained the difference between western uni and eastern uni, saying that what he had today was the more desirable western variety. I reluctantly tried a piece and lo and behold, he was right; it was sweet and unlike my previous memories of nasty uni that I've tried before. The servers were all young, energetic, and polite. This place is in a weird spot, but it is so worth going. Five stars, and I'm thrilled I have a new sushi place to frequent.

I can't say I've ever been a huge fan of sushi or maybe I just haven't had sushi at the right places. Everything we have from there was full of flavor and tasted great. We ordered the Philly Roll, Hawaiian Roll, Rock-n-Roll and Shrimp Tempura. There were many more roll options and I know we will be back to try the others that we didn't order. Our friends ordered the Great White Shark and mentioned it had a kick to it and it will definitely be on my list for next time.

This is a small place so dont go during the busy dinner time, or at the least get their early. The wait staff is hit or miss, we started with one young lady (not very good, got our order wrong) and ended up with another. The sever we ended up with was so much more on top of it, and made the experiance so much better. The food was good, the selection was large and I will be going back soon. They have beer and wine which is a plus in my book.

My husband and I love coming here for a quick dinner on nights when nobody feels like cooking. You can almost always get a spot and they're so quick w getting your food on the table. The staff is really cool and friendly. My husband orders the agedashi tofu every time we eat there. (Fried tofu in a delicious broth topped with seaweed.) I love their seaweed salad or their refreshing cucumber salad to start. The seared tuna nigiri is freaking delicious! If you're in the mood for a roll that's filling and fried and served w a sweet dipping sauce then definitely order the TNT roll. We have tried almost all the noodle dishes and I can say they're all delicious. They each have a distinct flavor. My favorites are the yakisoba and the crispy noodle, the latter having a more mild subtle flavor. Their asian infused tacos are a refreshing two or three bites. You never feel like you're overspending on sushi or entrees here...great prices!

I have been driving past this place for years and have never paid it any mind. A friend and his wife mentioned that they were regular patrons and were going to dinner to celebrate his birthday, so my wife and I tagged along. Not at all what I expected. The inside was surprisingly nice for being a strip mall restaurant. We were guided through the menu by our friends as they ordered apps for the table. We had the volcano and the crispy squid, both fantastic and very reasonably priced. We then ordered 2 of the sushi combination specials, all were good and fresh and again reasonably priced. I ordered the Diablo Noodle and my wife had an Udon dish ( can't remember which) which we both thoroughly enjoyed. I wanted to lick my plate when I was done to get the remainder of the great sauce! With dinner we had a few Sapporos and some sake, the wait staff knew my friend and brought out a complimentary bowl of Birthday Cake ice cream for the table, which was a nice touch. The best part of the meal was when they brought the check. $92 for 4 adults with drinks and sushi, you've got to be kidding me! We will be back for sure to try some of the rest of the menu offerings.

Went here with Leslie K and my sister for a dinner. They serve pepsi products here so if you're weird about that like I am, then be forewarned. The sushi tasted good but it looked pretty sloppy. I ended up getting spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and the edamame. The salmon looked pretty paltry in color. Service was kind of slow but not too bad. I'd say this is an average sushi joint. Hence the 3 stars.

Just went here last night after not coming here for a while and I was pretty disappointed. The rolls were not good at all. I ordered the Philly roll with salmon and cream cheese. The salmon was really warm. That's a big no-no. Tasted awful. I also did a make your own roll with krab salad and shrimp tempura. Most sushi places uses 2 shrimp pieces; they cut one in half. You could barely taste the shrimp. When I make my own sushi, I go to Noble Fish to buy an already made shrimp tray where I can bread it myself. It's 20 pieces for less than $6. If I'm paying $4 a roll (which yeah, is pretty cheap), I think they can afford to use two pieces of shrimp. They can probably get the shrimp for cheaper than I get it at Noble Fish. Sad sad sad. They talk about how they're affordable sushi but this is why. Not coming back anytime soon.

When I walked into this place, I think the place is very simple but with Typical Japanese atmosphere. The Sushi is actually better than what I expected and the price is cheaper than average. My favorite sushi are Dragon Roll and the Crunchy California roll. They have many varieties to choose from the menu- Ramen, Udon, Fried Rice, Sushi, and as well as other little Appetizer dishes.

I've had several of their noodle dishes and all of them were pretty good. Probably one of the best places to get a good bowl of ramen. The sushi is good and the prices are great compared to other sushi prices. The interior is nice and the wait staff is very nice along with the owners who are usually cooking and behind the sushi bar. Went to the restaurant this time to eat sushi from Edamame, and I was not disappointed. My friends kept commenting on how inexpensive the selections were. I ordered the Alaskan roll (which is huge, and has like 8-10 pieces), a sweet gourd roll and the Super Harley roll (which is pretty spicy, unless you decrease your chewing time and attempt to swallow it whole). They were all great. My friends ordered (and thus I sampled) the Seattle roll (has smoked salmon on top, yum!), spicy tuna, spicy salmon, Edamame roll (which was amazing), John R roll (a fantastic mix of flavors) and the caterpillar roll. The avocado was all fresh (not even a hint of brown from sitting out or being pre-cut) and the fish was very fresh as well. I ordered a seaweed salad which while small, tasted fresh and savory. The eating area is small but cozy. They have seating for maybe 40 or so people but they do a pretty good takeout business. Everything was clean and the wait staff was attentive even though they had a huge 15-20 person party taking up a lot of their time. As a tree-hugger, I also appreciated the light sensors in the bathrooms instead of a manual switch. I briefly looked at, but did not order from, the non-sushi aspect of the menu. It looked good but I had a major 3 day hankering for sushi that would not be denied. The only downside I can identify is that it's a tiny place in a decent sized strip mall. It is also surrounded by other Asian stores, so it would be easy to miss the sign. Definitely worth a trip, if you enjoy sushi!

For the price you really can't get any better. It doesn't have the atmosphere of a Mon Jin Lau, but I put their sushi at the same level. I've been told that they were working on getting a liquor license, which would be a perfect addition making this a worthwhile night spot. (I used to be on city council where they are, and I'm certain they'd approve their license if they snag one!) I'm very partial to the Hawaiian Roll, which has carmelized pineapple (juice?) on top of it. Just a sweet crispy piece of heaven on every roll. I have been treated like a king here, and I'm sent out this lovely little cucumber-crab-vinegarette salad every time I show up now, free of charge. Also incredible is the Super Harley Roll, which is certainly not healthy, but nice and delish. They do a wonderful fried tofu appetizer here as well as a ... umm, Pacific Wrap i think? Seafood in a hoisin sauce and asian wraps that you make yourself. Fact is, these are the same chefs that used to run Little Tree in Royal Oak until they were bought by Mr. B's. The price is right here, in fact, for the quality, I dare say a bargain.

Takes away from the taste of the fish and other ingredients when all I can taste is sauce. I would like to try some other dishes, they do look good. I have to thank my friend Don D. for introducing me to this lovely little restaurant! It really is a hidden gem. Another dirty strip mall find that makes its way into my top rated dining establishments. Edamame is my new favorite spot for sushi. Not just because it is some of the freshest, which it is, but also because it is a great value. For around $10 (less tip) I can get three rolls and miso soup. I think that is a great value. I tried the noodle dishes, and while I would not say they are great, they are definitely pretty decent. Solid 3.5 of 5 stars, but still the reason Edamame gets 4 stars and not 5. Try the seaweed salad or the mixed greens salad as both of these are very good and have unique dressings. The ginger dressing on the mixed green salad is my favorite ginger dressing of all time! Try the JL roll; it has tempura bits on the outside of the roll that gives it a unique texture. The spicy tuna is not made with a "tuna paste" or a ground up tuna, rather, nice succulent chunks of top quality fish tossed in the spicy sauce. Also, as other yelpers have mentioned, Edamame offers the option of a "build you own roll" sushi experience. I have not done this yet, but look forward to creating something uniquely tailored to my tastes. The decor is modern, clean and very inviting. I really think this restaurant is top notch. The laid back-modern style, it's quality ingredients, reasonable pricing and friendly service make dining at Edamame a real pleasure. ***** NO LIQUOR LISCENSE *****

I've been going to Edamame for about a year. I even have my friends that live in Lake Orion, drive down and meet me for dinner. My favorites are the Seattle Roll and the Hope Roll. The Hope Roll is an amazing mix of crab with asparagus, and a sweet sauce on top. VERY good. I like the small dinner feel, with the Pacific decor.. Simple, but nice. The place is always clean, the bathrooms are always stocked. Sometimes there is a little of a wait.. but I don't mind. The staff is REALLY nice, the jeans and converse feels is welcoming, and laid back. I have never been disappointed in any of the rolls that I have ordered. Ohhh, and their bubble drinks are fabulous too.

I finally took my husband here for lunch...and unfortunately didn't have quite the same wonderful experience I had the first time. It was lunch time (12:45-1:00ish) on a Friday, and it was way busier than it had been before. That said, it was still maybe just half full, or a smidge over half full. And the two waitresses were running around like mad--almost as if it had never been that busy before. We could see some tables that needed bussing and people waiting on checks. It's Seat Yourself, so we were deciding where to sit where a high chair would be least in-the-way and a waitress came up to us and was talking to us/helping us get situated--when a guy [from the group of five who had apparently been waiting some time for enough tables to open up] got in our business and was pissy that she was helping us while they waited. I really just wanted to tell him it wasn't OUR fault they needed to wait for tables to empty for their group--and besides, the table we were taking wouldn't have helped their cause anyway. Some people. But anyway, the waitress was obviously scattered and busy, as she quickly left our table and made no move to get the high chair--so I went and got it. We only had one menu--so I got up for another one. We had asked for waters and had to remind her when she came to get our order--a good 10 minutes later. You only get tiny waters (maybe 6oz with ice) and getting refills is nearly impossible. That said, the sushi came out pretty quickly--but the appetizers came out last...and they were both overcooked to the point of being a little burnt. So I was really disappointed in the Volcano that I had been looking forward to for months. But with the service as scattered as it was, I honestly didn't even want to deal with it. It took too long to get the check, and I didn't even bother waiting for her to come pick it up--I walked to the register myself...where I still had to wait because both waitresses were off on the floor. So why do I still give them four stars? The sushi is tasty and inexpensive...and I want to go back...so I'm still a fan. But I will definitely go at an off time when it's NOT busy. And I suggest you do the same.

I've been here three times now, to try and give the place a chance, but I'm just not sold. The sushi is okay. It was fairly tasty, but nothing I've had there has blown me away, and I don't feel a need to go back. The service was fine for two of the visits, but there was one time I was there when it was absolutely horrible. We must have sat there for at least twenty minutes before we were even greeted. We were watching waiters clear tables while we sat there, being ignored. Finally, a girl asked if we had been served and we said no, and then it was another five minutes before she came back. Then half of our party ordered drinks, which never came. All we got was water. To be fair, the waitress did seem to be very busy and stressed out, but I still couldn't believe that we sat for so long.

Gave Edamame another try last night. Wanted some sushi on the fly and cheap, so I decided it was time to give it another shot. Fish was still fresh, but actually tasted a little better this time. Stayed clear of the dragon roll since the eel was awful last time, but got a Las Vegas roll which has eel in it. Actually really enjoyed the Las Vegas roll. Also got to try spicy tuna since I was by myself instead of with someone who doesn't like spicy food. It was decent, wanted it to have a little more kick to it. Since the tuna was good though, I won't complain too much. Still not a place that I will frequent when I'm in the sushi mood (which is pretty often), but I wanted to give it a second chance.

Thanks fellow Yelp-ers! You directed us to Edamame with your comments and we found it to be a 4-5 star place. If what you're looking for is a sexy, sleek place to have a few drinks and be seen in... eh, not here. But if you want a casual, small place to have good, fresh, no pretense sushi and other stuff... you'll enjoy Edamame. The owner is a Filipino guy who has rolled sushi for nearly 30 years but has a gourmet's appreciation for lots of different food. So, for a sushi restaurant you may find some strange - but absolutely - delicious fare on the menu... like pork chops! But we went with the flow and whatever we chose was great. And before you pay your surprisingly small check, pack up and leave satisfied, be sure to try the Tempura Fried Cheesecake with Ice Cream. That alone is enough to bring you back many times.

OK, I will admit it is a cute place inside of an ugly strip mall that could be easily passed up. You can make your own sushi roll, which is fun, but they have actually quite a few original rolls that are neat (with Detroit names!). But... something was wrong... very wrong... My salmon nigiri looked like the salmon was starved to death. Where was the beautiful white stripes of fat that make salmon... well, salmon? The tuna was definitely not fresh and not quality grade (looked like some sad yellowfin to me). And perhaps the worst crime in all of sushi making history? My nigiri fell apart before making it to my mouth. It sat, rice wad split in half, drenched in soy sauce to reveal that it had no wasabi "glue" to bring fish and rice together as one entity. But it's cute! If you like cute, cheap, low quality sushi, go here! Don't come with high expectations or else you'll be sorely disappointed.

I'm definitely a fan of this place. I would give it five stars on food alone, but I thought some dishes were ok and not great. Most everything I have had at this restaurant (from the noodles to sushi) has been pretty good. I opt to go here instead of some place like Little Tree because it's more intimate. Intimate in that, it's smaller, and you'll see the same people there the next time you go in. Service is fairly fast. The people are always friendly. I believe the person that owns the place used to be part owner of Little Tree at one point. I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but their sushi tastes better than Little Tree's to me. I'm a fan of the shrimp tempura roll. It's standard, but every place makes it a bit different and this place is tops in my book so far. Some of my friends have said it's a bit pricey. Ex. a shrimp tempura roll, soup, and ginger salad, plus a drink is around 12 bucks or so. Maybe that's not expensive? I guess compared to getting a burger and fries at a fast food restaurant it is. They always have specials. When you go in check the board by the register for different special rolls. There is a pretty good lunch deal, but you have to look at the little stand-up tags on the tables or by the sushi bar. They are 9.99 specials, but you get a lot of food.

This is my first review on Yelp! Yay... Anyway, I heard so much about this place from friends. Decided to stop in last Friday 2/20/09 for dinner with my wife, sister-in-law and sister-in-law's husband. Since we are not huge sushi fans, we ordered the Pancit Bihon, which is a traditional Filipino dish, as well as the Garlic Fried Rice. Both were top notch. Very well cooked. Sister in law got some sushi and an appetizer. All in all, with soft drinks included, bill came to 39.00. Not bad for 4 people on a Friday. Portions are big, we had enough to make lunch the next day. Inside decor is very cool. They had some color changing lights that my daughter loved. Very clean, cozy, and a perfect place to take a date. -1 star because the waitstaff was a bit slow, and they seemed to be understaffed for the dinner rush.

It's been a while since I found a sushi place that knocked my socks off. Like nothing since the Sushi Room in Mt. Clemens has blown me away. But this place......it was like where rock bands would go to eat their sushi. Walking into this building is like nothing that you would think from the outside. And I love places like that. We were immediately seated and helped by a trendy, friendly young man. All the waitstaff was actually rather trendy and fresh come to think of it. They had a huge sushi menu and Pan-Asian cuisine as well but I really wantyed sushi. And sake. So I ordered a Walking Dead martini.....it didn't actually turn me into a zombie but pretty damn close because those martinis are worth the money. Probably the 2nd best vodka cocktail I've ever had. Next time I'm ordering the Happy Ending, only slightly insulting because I'm a massage therapist. I ordered a veggie roll which comes in the edamame paper. It was HUGE. Soft and velvety and scrumptious. IT just melted in your mouth. My main squeeze ordered a specialty California roll which he raves is the best sushi he's ever had. The only thing that sucks is that they have relatively normal hours, pretty much all in which I end up having to work which leaves me craving this yumminess 24 hours a day. I can't wait to go back.

I'm writing this review as I'm sitting here waiting on our food, which we just ordered, all while watching the people who walked in 15 minutes after us enjoy their meal. Blonde hair waitress sucks. She questioned my friends id and gave her the 20 questions about it. We sat down in the corner table, which was about the only option for our 3 person party because most of the tables were already taken, our waitress finally came over, and said "I'm not saying you have to move but..." And then pointed at the paper handwritten sign that she just set down saying reserved for parties of 5. We didn't know it was a special table, but damn, she sure let us know, and then came back about 10 minutes later to take our drink order. Not once did she come back to our table once we finally got our food (sorry this has taken me some time to write and am now at home). The only reasons ill ever come back is for the moderately cheap sushi and the cooks, who were the only people to ask us during the course of our meal if we needed anything and the only ones with anything nice to say.(young Asian dude with the glasses is awesome).

I am not a sushi connoisseur, by any means, but I do enjoy what I have had, and so far Edamame is by far my favorite sushi place. I will admit that I don't know a lot about sushi, so beyond looking nice and being yummy, my requirements are pretty simple. Edemame has a comfortable atmosphere, the wait staff is friendly and helpful and the prices are really good. I don't feel like I am paying extra just because this is a "trendy" food. I do tend to stick to the same few rolls - I love the Alaskan roll, the JL roll, the Tang roll, and the shrimp tempura roll here. I've never had anything that didn't seem fresh or well put together. I like that the menu lists what is in all the rolls - I hate when menus aren't clear and I have to ask. The only 2 things I've even had and not been happy with are the Spider Roll (just tastes like fried Tempura wrapped in rice) and roll that I can't remember the name of that was basically a fried California roll (one again, just tasted fried). My one big complaint is that they have a specials board, but it is next to the cash register, in a place that can't be seen from 90% of the tables and so, I always forget to check it out. They also have a bunch of rice and noodle dishes. The only one I've ever tasted was the chicken teriyaki fried rice. It was very tasty, but the presentation was not expected. It was sort of deconstructed, with the teriyaki sauce, rice, chicken and eggs all separate on the plate, needed to be combined.

I have had carry out orders twice from Edamame Sushi & was happy...my recommendations are Hawaiian rolls, Alaskan, yum yum, shrimp tempura, California rolls, & dragon, vegetarian roll is good! Desert cheesecake tempura is good & tried bubble tea for first time it was good too(honey dee flavor) but I don't get it everytime b/c I'm sure it's loaded w/ calories!! The Edamame beans could be of better quality but worth a try! I def. will be going back! Since original draft of review have been there @ least 4 other times! Luv it!

Once upon a time, Little Tree was my favorite place for my favorite roll: spicy tuna. Now, not so much. I heard a rumor (true?) that the Little Tree chef started his own place, Edamame. I don't know if it's true, but the spicy tuna roll is dee-lightful. The restaurant is tiny and casual, sort of like a sushi diner. You seat yourself; drinks other than water and hot tea (ie soda) come in the plastic bottle. A group of three of us waited about 15 minutes for a table on a Friday night around 715 or so. There were tables for 2 and counter seats available, but the tables for 4 were all full. Service was friendly, but not very attentive; I finished my water and my tea, but only my water was ever refilled. It was also a bit slow, but I could see that there were only a couple sushi chefs for maybe 10-12 tables. The sushi was good, though, and the prices were even better, especially for the nigiri. Bottom line: I'd go back, but with only one person (since a few tables for 2 and the counter were available at a peak time).

There are several "tiers" of sushi place. This isn't a fancy-shmancy take someone on a second date kind of place. This is workingman's sushi, and it is wonderful. First of all-the price to food ratio. What a deal! I mean, we can eat and stuff ourselves with sushi for the price of a snack at a fancier place. But its not cut-rate quality. I have actually had WORSE at more expensive places. Prices have gone up a smidgen since we first started eating there, but that is to be expected. Second-the make your own rolls. No sushi-chef ego here. You want it in a roll? You got it. Its given us the opportunity to try combinations that we would not have gotten anywhere else. Like seared tuna, pineapple, and avocado. The only gripe I have with this is that an ingredient is an ingredient. A roll with three kinds of fish cost the same as one fish and two veggies. I would like to see some sort of gradation there. And if they like a roll you come up with, they put it on the favorites board. Try mine-the TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Tuna) roll. Third-the rest of the menu. I gotta say, I haven't tried a heck of a lot from it, but friends have, and the bites I've tried have always been good. My wife LOVES the huge bowl of udon noodle soup. Fourth-the "atmosphere". Ok, I like ruin porn, and so finding a gem of a sushi place in a run-down strip mall on John R is just plain cool. The little Asian bakery in the strip is great for a quick dessert (though I'd rather just eat more sushi) and the other Asian stores (a take-out bbq place and grocery) lend some serious Far-East street cred to this upstart Japanese-fusion joint. Last-The staff are always wonderful and gracious. This matters!

I am relately new to sushi, I have only been eating it for about 2 years, and only within the past 10 months have I really gotten heavily into it. That being said this is my choice spot. The service here is excellent. The waitresses are always around when I need to ask a question (which I do frequently since my knowledge of the cuisine is quite limited). Along side being very attentive they are always very pleasant to talk with and very friendly. The tako nagiri is really tastey which is a must for me in any sushi place. Where this place really shines though is the bento boxes. For the price they cannot be beat. The amount of sashimi, nagiri, and rolls you get for 10 dollars is amazing, and it comes with an additional protien and miso soup. I could eat one every night of the week.

Ive been to Edamame 3 times and every time the service has been horrible. Ive given them 3 chances because the sushi is so good but this last time was their last chance. Even though the sushi is good the service makes the whole experience unbearable. After we sat down we had to wait for 15 minutes to order and after we ordered we sat for another 20mins before getting our water. 45 minutes after sitting down we had to ask for her to bring us our salads and soups. It took close to an hour to even get our food. I complained to the manager and all he did was apologize. Ive given them too many chances and every time the service disappoints. All in all horrible service, long waits for food, unwelcoming staff, and good sushi. Not worth it in my book. Ill find a new place.

I'm still kicking myself for not trying this place sooner. Passing it every day on my commute, it's so nondescript you think nothing of it. But it strikes the balance between value and taste perfectly. It has more tables than Noble Fish but has the same or better price points (a point they choose to advertise). The sushi will satiate but isn't overly complex (though you can design your own rolls) and the non-sushi fare is rather nice. I recommend the seafood pancake to mix things up. You're not going to find a better deal on a bowl of soba anywhere nearby. Keep in mind that it's small, independent and priced to the lower end on purpose. But ample parking and great selection are huge pluses at lunch time.

I like Sushi. One of the things that I like is that going out to eat Sushi is the experience, this includes the atmosphere. That is why only gave 3 stars. They don't subscribe to the Asian vibe, the restaurant is themed with the typical Sushi restaurant Asian decor but the underlying vibe is more American. That wouldn't warrant giving 3 stars alone...but the music is Old school classic rock and roll (think Hendrix) which again is fine, just not what I expect for the sushi experience. Finally, there are two other things that go on here that I don't care for. Catering to small children and allowing them to run around and scream and play loudly it unacceptable! Secondly, Don't clean the floor with Lestoil or Pinesol when I'm eating. Do it after the doors are closed.!!..do I really have to explain this to you??!! The food is really good but I can't take the experience... I could go there for carry out but I may as well go to Crazy Sushi for that and save a few bucks. Plus there is a bit of a "i;m entitled to do whatever I what here. Its my restaurant" feeling...so I'll vote with my wallet!!! you're not entitled to my money unless I get what I want!!

The restaurant was casual and my friends had a great corner table/booth. The staff was friendly but were not the most attentive. The cooked items in the bento box were overcooked and the sushi was mediocre. The soft-sheeled crab was done well.

I don't know. Maybe I don't like Asian Fusion. Let me start from the beginning. I decided to get a carry out on my way home from work the other night because I had a deal with Mark J. that I would check the place out. I stuck to sushi, and what I know, ordering the Spicy California Roll and the Edamame Roll (a tempura California roll), and threw in a miso soup, not knowing if the two rolls would satiate me. The rolls were good, nothing amazing, and I agree with the "loosely rolled" comments of other reviewers, but the miso soup was the worst I've ever had. I don't know if I just got a bad sampling, but for me it was inedible. Fortunately, the rolls were very filling and the soup wasn't needed. The sushi was definitely worthy of going back and the menu very intriguing, so I decided to go back tonight for dinner. I ventured into the noodle section and at first it seemed promising. I asked questions about the dishes (i.e., "what's your most popular?", "what's your favorite?", "what's the sauce in this and that?") and I was convinced to order the Diablo noodles ("Thick rice noodles cooked in butter, garlic, chili sauce w/Asian veggies") because I said I like spicy. This is where things started to go wrong. My noodles came (I ordered them with tofu) and it was a reasonable portion, but didn't seem like much for the money, especially since there were barely any vegetables, but quite a bit of tofu. The generosity with the tofu would have been great if it hadn't been some of the ickiest tofu I'd ever tasted. The noodles themselves had a great spice level, but I just didn't like the flavor... at all. I tried to make myself eat it, but I decided, for once, I was gonna send something back. I got the waitresses attention and apologized profusely and said that I just didn't like it. She asked me if I wanted something else and I went with what her second recommendation was, the Pancit Canton, and skipped the protein by just getting veggies. Here's where things went really wrong. She went back to the kitchen with the inedible noodles and then came back and said the owner said they would make me the new dish, but I would have to pay for both. Um... WHAT?! She asked me if that was okay and I said that, no it wasn't, and to just bring me back the inedible noodles. Then she came back and said that she must have misunderstood the owner and he said they'd make me the new dish free of charge. I'm sorry, but I just don't buy this. My new noodles came out after my husband was already done eating (note: he liked his Nabeyaki Udon, but said it wasn't worth going back just for that) and they were just okay, but nothing I'd ever eat again. I liked the pepper on them and she gave me some chili sauce to spice them up. I LOVE butter, but I just don't think I like them in my Asian noodles. That's the only thing I can think of. The decor is very nice and modern, bordering on cute, and the service was good other than the snafu with her "misunderstanding" with the owner, but it definitely wasn't worth the $30 I ended up paying in the end for just two sushi rolls, a soup dish, a noodle dish, and some tea. 3 stars for the sushi, but otherwise, I won't be back.

Don't be fooled by the lackluster Edamame website and the fact that their PDF menu pulls up sideways (rotate view counterclockwise), the food here more than makes up for it. In fact, I'd say Edamame is very close to replacing Noble as my favorite place to get carry-out sushi. I've also dined in and had prompt, courteous service. Casual with a laid-back style and very clean. Conveniently located near Star Theaters, so you can grab some sush and a flick. I like that the menu is divided by prices, ranging from Edamame Deluxe Rolls for $8.25 to Veggie Rolls for $2.75. Great to mix it up without spending an arm and a leg (and still leaving with your stomach touching your backbone). The Deluxe Rolls are well worth the price -- I highly recommend the Madison Cheese Steak Roll (that is, unless you're a staunch sushi elitist). It's absolutely delicious. And, it comes with either 8 or 10 pieces (I think 10) -- unlike some other places (*cough Sakana*) that charge a lot for a dinky premium roll that disintegrates in your soy sauce. I also highly recommend the Hawaiian roll, which is spicy yellowtail, avocado, eel and caramelized garlic sauce. Yum. I better stop writing before all the salivation on my keyboard causes a short.

I would have never gone to this place if it weren't for Yelp so thank you! This place was great. We got the volcano appetizer which was awesome. The tea they serve is my favorite Japanese tea that has a roasted brown rice flavor to it. I must have had about 4 or 5 cups. Though I didn't make my own roll I liked the fact that was an option. It was a nice surprise that the asparagus roll was tempura asparagus (it didn't mention that on the menu). Don't forget to check out the bragging board and the board with the specials on it (I missed it until after I ordered and would have liked to have gotten the garden roll). The prices were really good for the quality and the rolls were nice and tight, not sloppy like some places.

I'm a regular lunch customer and can recommend many dishes in the place. The Crispy Jalapeno Squip, Volcano, and Squid Salad appetisers are an excellent starter. The Diablo and Curry Udon noodles or the TNT sushi roll are good meal choices.

Decided to give this a try per janelle's recommendation. Have driven by this place a million times before but never cared to try it mostly due to its location. In a strip mall with no curb appeal shared by ethnic stores and a Subway, Edamame Sushi is an unexpected success to say the least. The decor is clean and simple. My impression of asian restaurants in the Madison Heights area is that they're often quite drab and not very clean, so a new immaculate restaurant is worth many points in my books. We didn't order any fish so I couldn't speak to that, but the vegetarian sushi were decent. The rice is slightly on the sweeter side for my taste, but that didn't stop us from finishing our 3 rolls within seconds. The rolls were smaller, but I suppose that's reasonable considering each roll only costed $2.50... or was it $2.75? Oh well. Can't really complain there, although it's important to note that it does cost more for rolls to be made inside out. The menu didn't say how much more but my guess is 50 cents, in which case the cost is very similar to what Nobana in Troy charges, and I do like Nobana sushi a little better in terms of taste. Plus you don't have to pay tips at Nobana since it's Panera style and I feel quite indifferent about the service we received at Edamame (am I really the only one?). Nonetheless, the create-your-own sushi is a great idea and our fried asparagus roll with spicy mayo was absolutely perfect. I think it's odd that the restaurant calls itself Edamame Sushi, because to me their strong point is their "nu-asian cuisine". Tried the garlic -buttery Yakiudon like janelle mentioned and boy was it garlicky. I was glad I was heading home after dinner... but despite that the dish was very very good. I'm excited to go back to try some of the other noodle dishes like the pancit. I've never had pancit before and am not aware of any restaurants in the area that serve filipino food, so the thought of going back does excite me.

Are you kidding me?! I had to pinch myself after I left just to make sure I was not dreaming. Hands down the best sushi I have ever had in MI. This is not your typical snobbish, trendy, button down shirt only and pretentious crowd type of place. Which is what I love about this place. Very simple inside, minimal decor, and the main focus is on the amazing food they put out here not what the girl or guy at table 6 is wearing. Last time it was 2 of us who went here. We ordered the calamari appetizer (amazing!) 3 specialty rolls (amazing!), a few nigiri, and a garlic rice entree (amazing!). All for under $40 and I left stuffed. I thought about giving it 4 stars just because of the fact they don't offer beer or Sake but I just couldn't bring myself to do that based on the fact that they put out super fresh food at a ridiculous price and the service is always great. I have already been recruiting people to join me here and will continue to tell everyone I know about this hidden gem.

This Place is perhaps the best sushi in Michigan. I have tried most items on the menu and have enjoyed them all. They have a Phillipino fusion aspect to the cusine including the first class sushi. This is the standby restaurant in the area and it makes my whole week to eat here. Try the great white shark roll, the hawiian roll and the super harley. Can't go wrong.

Yes! We absolutely adore Edamame. My husband said, "Wow, let's try that place." I thought it would be pointless to check it out, because it was a "hole in the wall" stuck between some Asian and Mexican grocery stores and a paycheck cashing place. Immediately, though, I knew my perception was wrong. It looks like a club on the inside with intimate tables. The waitstaff has always been pleasant. We adore Sushi Special #1 and Noodle Special #1 with Hawaiian Udon Noodles. We've been impressed by every roll we've had and every noodle style, save the garlic butter noodles, which are bland (more for the non-risk taker folks). The Diablo Noodles and the Hawaiian Oodon Noodles are amongst our favorites. We found an Edamame t-shirt at the thrift store and now my husband sports that whenever he can because he's an absolute nut about the place. My only gripe about service is that the sushi comes out 5-15 minutes before noodle dishes do, so make it a point to ask them to bring them out together. Compared to other local sushi joints, this place has it on price, atmosphere, and quality. Its main competitor, so much as I see, is really only Noble Fish in Clawson. Nami, Sakana, and other places in Ferndale and surrounding areas have nothing on this place, save some alcohol. Eat up weekly like we do!

I have eaten here a few times already. This is a good, cheap place. The food is not cheap. You definitely can go in on a budget though. You can create your own sushi roll or pick from a bulletin board with recipes on it. It is small but does accommodate for larger groups. It is not the best but a good place for the area and sit down place.

Edamame Sushi is located in a dilapidated strip mall on John R. in the Little Asia district of Madison Heights. If you blink you might miss it. So don't blink. Ever. Never ever again. I enjoyed Edamame Sushi when I went there. I thought the sushi was fresh and had a good flavor. It's not the most authentic sushi, I don't believe, so if you're looking for the more authentic variety you should probably look somewhere else. However, if you like sushi at a good price and you don't mind rolls made with cream cheese and other more western ingredients, then this is good for you. The only negatives about this place are that it's small and has weird hours. The place is not very large and when I was there I felt cramped. It doesn't help that it's normally pretty busy, which is a good sign I guess. Also, the hours are strange and I've tried to go several times and every time before they were closed. Overall, this is a great spot for sushi in the metro Detroit area. This place is nice and has sushi at a reasonable price. It's better than the sushi you get at the trendy sushi restaurants and its much less expensive.

Edamame Sushi brings the big heart of Detroit City into the suburbs, and beats profoundly against your palate like a tightly wound bass drum. The Miso soup is amazing, the fresh seaweed in it has an inky, springy quality, that let's you know it's fresh, not freeze dried and saturated back to life. The noodles are simple yet not understated, and while sometimes the tangle of flavors takes a minute or so to get used to, the more you eat, the more they make sense. The waitresses are hipster cool, sporting 1950's glasses and singing CatPower and The Doors while pouring drinks at their beverage station. The worst thing I have found at Edamame Sushi? A wobbly footed table. The best thing? Their 1975 prices. It's seriously cheap. A bento box for under 11dollars? wow. Edamame sushi is our favorite little secret.

I absolutely LOVE this place! Their sushi is great as well as the entrees on the menu. I normally order one of the noodle dishes from the menu, and each one that I had tried is excellent. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars and not 5 was because of the service. Although the server was really friendly, she was very slow for handling such a small restaurant. However, I did notice that not only was she serving tables but she was taking carry-outs over the phone. I can't grasp if they are just understaffed, or the waitress simply can't handle it.

Yeah, I've know this place has been here for a long time and yeah I've driven by it to get to Vietnamese or Best Buy or Cici's pizza...OK I'm joking about Cici's, never been there. I wanted to take a friend to lunch for his birthday so we met at Sabidee on 14 mile....What the (insert swear word), they are no longer in business. We regrouped and headed here.... My buddy is Filipino, so the 1/3rd of the menu that are Filipino dishes, immediately got attention. We tried a few rolls and they were good, the fish seemed fresh and the rice wasn't mush. The server was great, she was pretty patient with me asking questions about everything and she talked me into a coconut seafood stew. Very good! At the end of the day even a mediocre meal can sometimes be offset by great service, and we got lucky today as both were good. I'll be back soon.

I love edemame (usually)! Their rolls and nigiri are delicious and fresh plus the fact that they are inexpensive is pretty damn neat too! My cousin goes with the Hawaiian roll and I think she may be addicted since when we went yesterday she had to double up ;) I LOVE their hawaiian udon and prefer nigiri of salmon or tuna. They have a great combo where you can get a noodle dish and 3 nigiri or 1 roll for only $10!! So DAMN worth it!! Their Alaskan roll is yum!! Their noodle dishes are OK..I'm not the biggest fan. Husband likes their pork fried rice. Like any place they have off days in service and food as I experienced yesterday with my spicy tuna roll being mostly rice and barely any tuna and the server forgetting part of our order :( However I don't think this should be taken as an indication of the restaurant in general since I have been going there since they opened and have had mostly positive experiences and will continue to go...maybe even next week!

Ordered a bento box B2. It has 4 pieces of ngiri sushi (tuna, shrimp, whitefish, and something else i cant remember) a gyoza, green seaweed, terriyaki beef, octopus, and a sashimi of unknown fish (redish color with a rough texture) Overall opinion. So-so. U be better off visitng Volcano sushi. Better value and better food. I was not impressed by this place. Or visit Tokyo sushi on Livernois and Square lake. Both of those sushi shops are better imho. Wife had the sushi special: california roll, spicy tuna roll, and spicy fish roll. This was actually disappointing. California roll just has fake crab abd avocado. Spicy tuna roll was not done right, too much spicy sauce and killed the tuna taste. Spicy fish roll was blend. Just some fish cooked with salt wrapped in rice. Nothing special. Would NOT return again. PS. If u ask for green tea. It's $1.50 a person. Rip-off. How about i bring my own green tea bag from CostCo and pay me $2 bucks?? Charging $1.50 for a cup of green tea is ridiculous.

Meh... I am a huge fan of Take Sushi in Rochester Hills, but this was right next to where I work and I had a craving for Sushi. Read the reviews and thought I would give it a shot. I just got carry out and it was the lunch rush so I didn't expect it to be perfect. What I got was good, but nothing to write home about. Two of the rolls fell apart and the rest where kind thrown together it looked like. I understand lunch is a busy time, but I called in my order so they could have taken their time with it. I was also disappointed by how little wasabi I got. I can't say much for what it's like to eat inside, it looked like a nice place. I would go back again if I'm working and I want Sushi, but I would ever go here other than that.

After reading the reviews on Yelp, I decided to give this place a try. On the outside, it looked like a mediocre sushi bar in a teeny strip mall. When I went inside, I was pleasantly surprised by the intimate lighting and distinct sounds of good conversation and various cooking noises. I ordered the Truffle Oil Sashimi, several pieces of different Nigiri, the Dragon Roll, and Big Joe Roll. The Truffle Oil Sashimi appetizer contained 4 pieces of fish, 2 of which were Salmon, the other 2 I believe were Yellowtail. To me that didn't seem like $7.95 worth of food. I could taste the ponzu but truffle oil really didn't jump out at all. The sushi was ok. The presentation was nice and the fish was on point but that didn't make up for the sushi rice, which pretty much makes up 80 percent of the meal. I had never had sweet sushi rice before and the taste was a bit off-putting. The service however was excellent. No complaints there. It was nice to try a new sushi restaurant but I think I'll go by my old standbys--Noble Fish and Tokyo Sushi & Seoul BBQ.

Probably one of my faves of all time. Salad, sushi, service--it's all good. The spicy mayo that comes with the sushi is amazing. They do provide beer and some mixed drinks and that's awesome. But man, the sushi. It's the best. Every place I've been to pales in comparison. I think a close rival is Noble Fish. Same prices and somewhat of the same quality, but Edamame gives bigger portion sizes and they also serve fried rice and many other types of dishes here (amazingly tasty by the way), which is something to think about if your date or friend doesn't really like sushi. Weird, but it happens. Go here. Seriously. Go here if you want delicious sushi and great service.

Edamame is a small quit place to grab some sushi. I'm not a fan of the dingy over washed plastic red cups they serve you to drink a 20oz plastic bottled pop in. That being said the sushi is really good. They have a wide variety of noodle dishes, with fresh vegetables and tasty meats. I recommend this place, just let it be known its more of a take out joint with a few tables to dine in if you want.

Edamame is the self-proclaimed "Best sushi in the Detroit area", so I had to give em a run for their money.... err or my money... whatever, anways... Of course, I ordered the Edamame, which was boiled to perfection and what I liked the most is that they used SEA SALT instead of table salt, which made it taste so much better, plus sea salt is better for you :) My girl Ashlee R. (shout out!) got the Seaweed Salad and let me try it since it was a first for me... it was good, kinda sweet and sour with a hint of ginger, but obviously an oceany aftertaste. I don't think it's my cup of tea but I'm sure a lot of people love it. For sushi I ordered their Michigan Roll (spicy tuna, eel, avacado) which was scrumptious! I also got the Seattle roll (California roll wrapped with salmon and topped with spicy mayo sauce and carmelized). I wish I would have paid attention to the fact that it said "carmelized" because I don't really like cooked or partially cooked salmon on sushi, but that's my preference so other than that it was a good pick. Also note: there is not a single roll more than $8.50 in the house which makes my purse strings dance! They know where they stand in the sushi restaurant market and they charge accordingly! Our waitress was really nice and attentive. And I would have given this place 5 stars if it weren't for one small, big thing.... I walked in a 1pm and it looked like the restaurant was at the tail end of their lunch rush because every table was occupied... not by people but the remains of their dining experience. Which is fine, i don't expect staff to be superheroes zipping down to bus each table immediately, so I was happy to find the one and only clean table to be a table for 2 which was perfect for me. But I noticed that when 2pm rolled around, all the tables were STILL as is, sitting there dirty! And it's small establishment so they really should have been better about cleaning them up quicker than that... And cleanliness is soooo important in the food industry, and I have even higher standards at places where they serve raw fish! It makes me wonder about what goes on behind the sushi bar.... :-\ I would love if the owner/manager read this and understood the importance of prompt clean-up. The food is really good, it would be a shame if people were turned off by something like this which is in the establishment's realm of control.

I love this place. Very personal. Since they do have the bar around their sushi personnel, you can see the way your food is being prepared. They will try their best to prepare what you prefer eventhough it may not be on the menu. They even have a board up showing some of their customer's self thought of creations. Edamame is a really good, inexpensive sushi option in Oakland County. Not overpriced like the typical RO, Ferndale, Madison Hgts, Clawson options. It's located in an Asian market strip mall, between Auggies and a 7-11. They have more than just Sushi....soups, noodles, etc. They have a "Sushi Special#1" which is three different rolls and side of Miso soup. There Dragon Roll and any roll with soft shell crab are great. One item they list as a appetizer is "The Volcano" and a must try for all. It is more of a meal for one than a table apprtizer. Very fast service. I have been there about 20 times as both dine in and take out. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever had anything bad at Edamame. Thumbs Up.
